The Reverend Marcus D. Martin is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He left home to further his education and to receive adequate training for ministry. This led him to Virginia Union University. In August of 1995, while attending school, Reverend Martin was licensed to preach the gospel by the New Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church family and under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Robert L. Haynes.
In May of 1997, Reverend Martin received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy graduating with honors. Seeking to further his education,
Reverend Martin went on to obtain a Masters of Divinity degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in May of 2000 and a Masters of Arts in Christian Education from the Union Theological and Presbyterian School of Christian Education in June of 2001. During this period,
Reverend Martin interned at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia and sat under the teaching and mentoring of Pastor Sylvester T. Smith. During this period Reverend Martin was called to pastor the Mount Olive Baptist Church of Essex, County Virginia in February of 2001. After completing the work
God had assigned for Mount Olive, Reverend Martin was led to the New Bridge Baptist Church of Henrico, County, in 2007 were he currently serves as the proud Pastor.
Rev. Martin served as the Division of Clergy President and a General Board member for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia from 2009 — 2011 and Chair of the Commission on Christian Education from 2007-2009. In May 2022 Rev. Martin earned a Doctorate of Ministry degree from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri with focus in Colonial Theology's impact upon the African American Christian religious construct.
